School of Media
The School of Media is one of the largest providers of practice-based media education and related subjects in the UK.
Its work ranges in level from Foundation Diploma, through a raft of undergraduate courses to MA degrees and PhDs. Students benefit from the richness of LCC courses and specialisms, and there are many opportunities for collaboration and exchange at School, College and University levels. With its photographic and television studios, darkrooms, gallery space, sound design and interactive media and animation suites, broadcast and print newsrooms and printing studios, the School provides an exciting environment for students to develop both their creative and professional skills for future careers in all areas of the media and associated sectors.
For students in the School, the cultural and professional environment of London is a vital resource. The College is located at the Elephant and Castle single campus site, close to the City and West End. London is renowned for its concentration of key media and marketing organisations working in journalism, printing, publishing, photography, public relations, marketing and advertising, retail, multimedia and film and video. London also provides a unique range of opportunities for academic and cultural study with libraries, archives, cinemas, theatres, museums and exhibition venues of world rank.
The ethos of the School is learning by doing. For example, our student journalists produce a weekly newspaper and associated website (http://www.artslondonnews.co.uk) and our publishing students have won international awards for their work. All our staff are practitioners in their field, many working concurrently in media and education. Industry professionals often act as associate lecturers or give specialist classes or talks. The School also hosts events for prestigious speakers such as Alastair Campbell, Max Clifford and Martin Parr.
Alumni of the School are working all over the world from Hollywood to Bollywood, from the National Gallery to the Elevator Gallery, from the BBC to Al Jazeerah. Some work in big corporations, some are freelancers and some are artists exhibiting in galleries.
We offer courses in subject areas including photography, film, video and broadcast, journalism, media and cultural studies, animation, documentary film, screenwriting, sound arts, print media, public relations and publishing.
