Introduction to copy-editing

with Lesley Ward

This course will help you gain confidence in editing documents and bringing consistency of style to different pieces of copy.

Level 1

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

You may be working in a document checking department of a large organisation, but the course frequently attracts people who are copy-editing books, journals, proceedings and reports. It is also suitable for those considering a freelance career as a copy editor.

COURSE DETAIL

The ability to pull together disparate pieces of copy - and to ensure they read as a coherent whole - is of great value to a variety of organisations. In this two-day course, you will learn the basic skills of the profession and hone them in practical exercises. Your tutor will discuss house style and consistency, as well as issues such as structure, headings and the role of captions. At the end of the course, you will have more confidence in your ability to edit copy effectively within a professional environment.
