School of Graphic Design
Staff and Students in the School of Graphic Design believe in active debate and discourse to articulate the function, value and purpose of Graphic Design.
In studying Graphic Design at LCC students are encouraged to challenge existing design orthodoxy and to identify design-related communication problems, which forms a focus for their approach to study. Learning in the School of Graphic Design at LCC is about research, intellectual curiosity, discovery, interaction, change and the acquisition of skills to express and communicate through images and text.
The School of Graphic Design, constitutes a unique learning community made up of staff, fellow students and guest speakers from a diverse range of creative disciplines and cultures. All tutors in the School are actively involved in Graphic Design related research, scholarly investigation and professional practice which has helped us in developing strong course identities. Academic and professional relationships with industry, established by the School, provide opportunities for students to access a valuable base of practice and expertise to provide a context where appropriate to support research and intellectual enquiry.
Graduates from the School of Graphic Design at LCC include Neville Brody, Nick Bell, Jason Kedgeley, John Hegarty, David Hillman and many others at the forefront of graphic design. The School recognises that graphic design is one of the most important and influential of the creative industries and that it contributes significantly both directly and indirectly to our economic and cultural well being.
We believe that every visual creative work is a manifestation of the character of the designer 'it is a reflection of their knowledge, their ability and their mentality' (Josef Muller-Brockman).
The School of Graphic Design is one of four Schools in London College of Communication. The three other Schools are the School of Media, the School of Printing and Publishing and the School of Creative Enterprise.
