Deborah V. Owusu-Bonsu - MA Publishing
Why do so many international students decide to study at LCC? Deborah V. Owusu-Bonsu heard about the production facilities at LCC and was intrigued. "Back home in Ghana we mainly use outdated printing machines and always had to imagine what a Heidelberg machine looked like," she recalls.
Like many LCC students, she'd been recommended the College by word of mouth.
"My former lecturer told me about LCC's excellence in printing and publishing," she says. "My favourite aspect of the course has been the lectures - particularly those from visiting speakers from the industry," she enthuses. "They help us have a direct feel of what the future of publishing will be like, thus keeping us on the cutting edge of this digital era."
Now in the third phase of the course, Deborah is undergoing an internship at Financial Times Business, where she assists the Senior Designer. The knowledge she's attained on the course about layout, pagination and creating PDFs is all proving helpful and she's also learning more about how to design for the web.
"The publishing industry is changing very fast. The course keeps students up-to-date with the knowledge and wisdom from visiting speakers from top publishing companies, most of which are doing a lot of their publishing digitally and on the web. I hope to find my niche in the new and breaking frontiers of publishing and ICT. This course really taught me that we have to take risks, be it in book, magazine or web publishing."
