Co-authored/co-designed publication with Ian Noble (Kingston University). This volume examines a range of research methodologies relevant to graphic design practice. It features a number of previously unpublished case studies that exemplify different graphic design methodological approaches.
The chapters address a number of design considerations such as 'Theory in Practice’, ‘Audience and Message’ and 'Process and Materials, rather than attempting to present the design process as a fixed, linear sequence. Eleven case studies were chosen to illustrate specific clusters of thought within the graphic design process, reflecting the thematic structure of the chapters in the book. The book also includes a series of guided exercises for readers to undertake in order to reflect on each of the methods and processes explored.
The first volume appeared in an English Language version, a German language version and also in the Korean language. It is cited by a number of authors across a range of disciplines including Ulla Hakala (Turku School of Economics and Business Administration, 2005).
